>Rip DVDs
>VLC media Player has inbuilt ASCII art mode which is most outstanding ability to playback movie in ASCII art.
>VLC includes tons of Shout cast radio stations around the world.


Rip DVDs

VLC has inbuilt basic DVD ripper. We never use it because we have better DVD rippers available all other internet, But also VLC contain a super DVD ripper and gives an outstanding quality.
To Rip the Movie
Go to menu >> choose convert / Save. Add file >> select a movie >> and go to disc tab.
Here you can adjust some and select some settings, edit the starting and ending positions with .MPG feature and start ripping.
Now Click Save and video files will start to RIP and Convert.


Record Videos:

With All new VLC you can record videos during playback and seeking. The record button on VLC media Player is hidden by default and we need to enable it. To enable the Button just go to view >> advance control.
Clicking on Button while playing a movie or video will start getting recording the video you are playing and Pressing a button will stop the recording.

Play RAR files

We can even play movies inside the RAR files with VLC. If the movie files have been spitted into the part then also VLC media Player automatic search for other parts inside the folder and play sequentially. Amazing thing is we can even seek and playback while video is being played from the RAR file.
Play in ASCII mode

VLC media Player has inbuilt ASCII art mode which is most outstanding ability to playback movie in ASCII art.

To enable this features we need to go to tools >> preferences >>. Open “Video” section and under “output” choose “Color ASCII art video output” from the dropdown box and click save.
Now we can play any video file and get the look of ASCII art.
Listen to the Online Radio

VLC includes tons of Shout cast radio stations around the world. 

We just need to enable it through media >> Services Discovery >> Shout cast >> Radio Listings.
Now we can get the list of play list of Shout cast radio stations browse any of them and play
Convert Audio and Video Formats

Audio converter

As we know VLC in even a converter of video and audio too and convert video and audio from one file format to another.
Tons of Video file formats have been supported like .mp4 .WMV .AVI .OGG .MP3.
To access the converter. Go to >> media >> Convert/Save >> load the file we want to convert using the add button and press convert.

Download YouTube and Other Online Videos

First copy the URL of the YouTube video we want to download from the YouTube video page.
Now Click on Media >> Open network stream >> Paste YouTube Video URL and click play.
Once VLC starts streaming >> click Tools >> Codec Information and at the bottom of the VLC windows we will see a location box. Copy the URL and paste it on your browser`s address bar.
Now Browser will start to download the file which we can save it to our hard disk and choosing either way we can record the video also if have faster internet connection for smooth buffering.
